The economic impact of this program equates to approximately $2,500 per couple per month and with estimated 500 couples this equates to nearly 4,000,000 in 3 short months. Each January the Summer Citizens Program Coordinator, Cache Valley Visitors Bureau, Utah Festival Opera & Lyric Repertory Co & several apartment complex representatives travel to Arizona and in alternating years to Texas & California to recruit program participants. Linda sends her regards from Arizona where she is currently recruiting Summer Citizens program participants for 2016. - Education Advancement Award - Dr. Richard Maughan, BATC (retired)
- Dr. Richard L. Maughan became the Director of the Bridgerland Area Vocational Center in 1975. During his 40 year tenure at BATC, his position title, as well as the institution name, changed as he created and managed a college that provides training to a wide variety of students at a low cost. Along with using his many talents to build and operate his own ATC, he deserves much of the credit for the ATC facilities and programs in the Utah College of Applied Technology system, and throughout the State of Utah.
Dr. Maughan's Employment Through Training philosophy has proven effective over the decades with consistent completion, placement, and licensure rates that lead the state and the nation. He is known statewide for the excellent working relationship and cooperation he has established with the area school districts, their boards, superintendents, and CTE (Career and Technical Education) directors.
Along with his educational accomplishments, Dr. Maughan also proudly served his country in both the Utah National Guard and the U.S. Naval Reserve. He became the Commander of Troop Command from 1992 to 1998 where he retired at the rank of Colonel.

- Total or Outstanding Citizen Award - Dean Quayle
- I grew up in the Logan area, attended local schools and graduated from Utah State University in 1963. I married my childhood sweetheart and we left the area for an Air Force career that took us from Germany, Arizona, Texas, California, Vietnam, Thailand, Montana, Colorado and ended in Utah after 23 years. I served as a weapons controller, then pilot and Safety Officer with a 3 year involvement in Vietnam with a full-year combat tour. Thiokol employment occupied the next 15 years where I worked in the Safety Group. One unique involvement was with the demilitarization of the former Soviet Union?s Intercontinental Ballistic Missile system. I spent considerable time in the Ukraine where the missiles were first built and then disassembled to eliminate their serviceability. This was a unique opportunity to see the other side of what I had been trained and prepared to fight. A happy retirement then commenced that still continues.
- Service in the community has been a most rewarding experience over many years.. I was part of the group that formed Cache Community Connections (CCC) in late 2001. CCC was created to bring unity to the community following the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York and Washington DC and remains today as a viable interfaith organization serving the community. CCC has been a very rewarding experience for me where I have formed many enduring friendships over the years. The Tabernacle Concert and Lecture Series grew from CCC and I assisted in the presentation of hundreds of Noon Music and various other programs and concerts throughout the years.
- I served on the board of directors for the Multi-Cultural Center and the Cache Valley Transit District. Involvement with the Logan Neighborhood Council lead to being a member of the Logan City Council for 4 ½ years.
- As the parents of a son born with Down syndrome, I have been a participant in varied activities and organizations beneficial to the special needs community.
Church service and family activities occupy most of my time now. Gardening, reading, fixing stuff and an occasional fishing trip are great diversions. - Dean and LuAnn (Wennergren) are the parents of 4 children, with 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
- Event of the Year Award - Gary Saxton, Tour of Utah Race Stage 1
- The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah is one of only five UCI-sanctioned, multi-stage, pro cycling events in North America. Logan Utah hosted Monday's 132 mile Stage One of the 2015 Tour of Utah which showcased Logan, Logan Canyon, and Bear Lake to 124 Pro Men Cyclists and 94 Pro Women Cyclists, racing for the world?s most prestigious teams and attracted worldwide attention on Fox Sports! In 2015, Logan's Stage One was viewed by 282,000 fans in 139 countries via the Internet, with 70% of international traffic generated from Europe.
- Stage One also included a Saturday evening, Team Presentation event at the Logan Golf & Country Club and a Sunday morning, Roll-Out Press Conference at the Edith Bowen Auditorium.
- The Tour of Utah required Logan to form a Local Organizing Committee to oversee race operations, sponsorships, volunteers, marketing, media, lodging, hospitality, community outreach, parking, and many more city services. The Logan LOC was a collection of some of Cache Valley's best citizens, leaders, and avid cyclists who saw the vision of bringing such an incredible international event to Logan that highlighted the tremendous natural beauty of our surroundings on a world stage.
- Young Entrepreneur Award - Joel Duffin, 4H Makers Club
- Cache Makers was founded in October of 2013 by Kevin Reeve and Joel Duffin, friends with a passion for technology and for sharing that passion with youth. We run an after school and summer program that gives Cache Valley youth a chance to dive into Science, Math, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) activities like robotics, 3D printing, web and app design, game development and astronomy – hands-on learning activities that get youth excited about STEM and help them prepare for STEM careers, while giving STEM professionals an opportunity to give back and building a community of makers in Cache Valley. Check out the video of a female-only Cache Makers space science group launching a balloon with a camera to 115,000 feet!
Joel, Kevin and other volunteer leaders ran the program for the first year and a half in a donated space with contributions of money, equipment, and materials from multiple sponsors, including the Cache Chamber of Commerce. In November of 2015, we received a three-year grant from the Department of Workforce Services (DWS) to help Cache Makers to reach 1,000 youth and to focus on engaging Hispanic and female youth. Using this grant, we moved to a new 3,200 square foot building, hired a full-time program coordinator, multiple assistants, and expanded our activities.
In addition to hosting events, Cache Makers leads events at the local schools, libraries, and other public locations. Faculty and graduate students from Utah State University's department of Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences have conducted multiple research studies at Cache Makers. Cache Makers is a 4-H club under the Utah State University Extension.

- Buy Local Initiative Award - Mark Lunt, The Island Market
- Mark Lunt
AKA Motormouth
I moved to Logan Utah in 1992
With the intention to go to USU
I decided to quit school shortly after I met my wife
Who is the best deal I have ever landed in my life
Working on computers, I am not a fan
I decided I would be much happier to land a job as a mailman
I loved delivering mail and getting paid to walk the streets
The birds-eye view or the Real Estate Market just can't be beat
I started picking up rentals, fixer uppers is what I love
Played the grandfather game with Logan City when push would come to shove
I'm an accidental entrepreneur foolish enough to believe and crazy enough to try
So I started Catalyst Property Management with this incredible guy
I was supposed to do maintenance and he would make the office roll
But his existing company exploded and he was never able to let go
I had never worked a day in an office, I couldn't even attach a doc to an email
I had no idea what I should do but day after day I gave it Hell
In five years we were the two biggest in the valley but I ended up getting board
Plus it get old when the national pastime is to hate the landlord
I had some offers to buy the company but I couldn't just sell it to anyone
The Pond's are from Cache Valley and they actually think property management is fun
I am a long time Islander and the Island Market is where I shop
The place was getting run down but there is no way I was going to let it drop
I put in the time and some friends put up the cash
I love running the Island Market and I'm doing fixer uppers again at last
I have been told that stores are like cows and you can't have only one
Soon I'll be opening a store downtown to see if I can have twice the fun
Crowd-funding is the future for investing locally and the JOBS Act is where I?m placing my bet
I am the most hyper active 45 year around, so you aint seen nothing yet

Bringing back the Centerpieces!
At the 2015 Awards Banquet, we introduced our donated center pieces, which were given away to one lucky person at each table, and they were a huge success! We saw a fair amount of friendly competition among the participating businesses for who could provide the most unique and captivating centerpiece. This year, we are bringing them back, with a bonus; the winner of the most creative or unique centerpiece will receive a punch-pass good for five (5) free Leadership Lunches, an $80 value! Attendees at our banquet this year will receive a voting card at check-in, and will be able to help us decide who went over-the-top with their donation. We will be accepting no more than 45 centerpieces, so sign-up early by emailing the Chamber Coordinator here! We look forward to seeing your creativity and support at our banquet this year.
